Preserve Tableware
It has recently been my pleasure to review Preserve® Tableware. Preserve is an innovative company that has been highlighted in the New York Times and Better Homes and Gardens Magazines. They make eco-friendly products for the home that are not only stylish and strong, but are affordable too. On top of that, the company has a strong social and environmental ethic that definitely qualifies it as a business that all Eco-Babe’s should know about.

Founded in 1996 by Eric Hudson, Preserve has grown from making one product, the Preserve Toothbrush, to offering an array of essentials for the home. From razors to colanders, Preserve has just what you need to make your kitchen and bathroom eco-sanctuaries!

Here are Preserve’s core principles, as stated on their website:

  • Preserve products are made from 100% recycled plastics and 100% post-consumer paper. By using recycled materials, we save energy, preserve natural resources and create an incentive for communities to recycle.
  • All of our plastic products are recyclable, either through our postage-paid labels and mailers (toothbrushes and razor handles) or at the curb in communities that recycle #5 plastic.
  • We make our products in the USA, so that we can ship them shorter distances, using less fuel and limiting our environmental footprint.
  • We don’t test on animals. Period.
  • Preserve products are made to last—and to look good doing it.

While I am very excited about all of the products Preserve has to offer, I’d like to take a moment to fill you in about Preserve® On the Go Tableware. This family of products includes: 7” plates, 10” plates, tumblers, forks, knives and spoons. They are the eco-friendly alternative to disposable tableware. All of these products are made from 100% recycled plastic and are themselves recyclable. In fact if your community doesn’t offer #5 plastic recycling, you can drop off your used Preserve products and some Whole Foods stores or mail them back to Preserve.

While they are disposable, I have used mine as my everyday tableware for a few months now, and I have not thrown away a single piece! Preserve® On the Go Tableware has exceeded my expectations in durability, reusability and convenience. In fact, I have recommended Preserve Tableware to all of my college friends for just this reason. They even stood up to an outdoor potluck and easily held the weight of a baked potato, steak and beans with no breaking, bending or leaking! On top of that, clean up is a breeze because they are dishwasher safe. I have compared Preserve Tableware with some of the more popular brands on the market including: Hefty Serve 'n Store® Everyday Disposable Tableware, Dixie® Heavyweight plates, and Chinet®, and across the board Preserve is the best!

Features:
• Made of 100% recycled #5 plastic, 100% recyclable
• Can withstand hundreds of uses
• Dishwasher safe
• BPA and melamine free
• Made in the USA

In addition, using Preserve’s recycled products instead of buying products made of new materials (virgin polypropylene) has a significant positive impact on our environment.

How much of a difference?
At least 54% less water than virgin polypropylene
At least 64% less greenhouse gases (in CO2 equivalents) than virgin polypropylene
At least 75% less oil than virgin polypropylene
At least 48% less coal than virgin polypropylene
At least 77% less natural gas than virgin polypropylene
At least 46% less electricity than virgin polypropylene

Thank You!
