PostSubject: Burts Bees   Tue Dec 02, 2008 2:35 am

Many people have asked about it so I thought I would address it here. Burts Bees is not organic. They say so on their website. Some of their older products are fairly natural, but none of their ingredients is organic. Some contain "fragrance" which is linked to headaches, allergies, skin sensitivities, birth defects and cancer. The excuse they give on their website sounds like a copout. NATURAL does not mean ORGANIC or CHEMICAL FREE/SAFE. It's a misnomer than advertisers and marketers use. The only way to know if a product is safe is if it's been certified by a credible agency such as the USDA, IMO, and Oregon Tilth. When certified, the product is given a percentage of organic ingredients. You must have at least 70% organic ingredients to be certified. There are many products that are 100% organic and say so. So to claim that you don't want to be certified because "natural is better" is ridiculous. Having the certification could only boost sales and make your companies claims closer to truth. 100% natural means nothing. Oil is 100% natural, but you wouldn't want to put it on your face or in your mouth!
